Who we are.

Where these circles intersect is where we gather to watch marathons and re-read the same book 1,000 times. We are mostly harmless.

  1. When I first saw this diagram I thought there was another word, not shown here, that I identified with starting about 17 years ago. What was it? It came from a book.

Hackers: Heroes of the Computer Revolution by Steven Levy. I discovered it in 1994 when a computer science professor talked about it. When class was over my friend Evan and I scampered happily to the nearest Barnes & Noble and each bought a copy. I thought I had at last found my identity.

That was a long time ago.

Do you ever look something up on the internet rather than look around the room for the actual object? The book is here, somewhere. Yesterday I found the issue of Analog "Dinosaur Blood" is in on its dusty shelf. Let's not push it. Anyway, I'm waiting for the undocking of space shuttle Atlantis from the International Space Station on Nasa TV.

Anyway, I found the Wikipedia entry: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hackers:_Heroes_of_the_Computer_Revolution

It does not help me remember what I loved about the book. It had to do with characteristics/personality of a hacker. I'll find the book.
